The Lawrence Eisman Center for Preparatory Studies in Music (CPSM) offers a complete program of instruction for young musicians, ages 3 through 18, who wish to develop performance skills and an understanding of music theory and literature. We welcome students of all levels. All incoming students meet with department coordinators and are placed in the program according to their needs.
CPSM is a comprehensive music school, offering a wide variety of programs. Course offerings include: private instruction for all orchestral and band instruments, as well as piano, voice, guitar, and composition; musicianship; orchestra; jazz ensemble; chamber music; chorus; Suzuki piano, violin, and cello classes; and Dalcroze classes for the very young.
In 1981, CPSM opened its doors at the Queens College facility at Caumsett on Long Island. We began with 25 students taking classes and a small but enthusiastic faculty.
Now thirty years later, we are in a state-of-the-art building on the Queens College campus and have an enrollment of approximately 350 students and more than 60 talented faculty members. CPSM enjoys three orchestras, three choruses, and extensive performance programs. Our alumni and current students bring honor to themselves and CPSM in festivals and competitions at home and overseas. CPSM, located at Queens College’s Aaron Copland School of Music, services residents of the five boroughs of New York City, as well as Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties.
We welcome you to join our musical family and explore the many opportunities available to students enrolled in the program.
